About
I never wanted to be an entrepreneur. However, when I had to fill out any paperwork at the doctor’s office or fill out something about my profession, I would notice the little self-employment box. I wanted to know who checked that and what did that mean.
While studying theatre in college, I found my love for hair and makeup backstage as I prepared for my performances in whatever production I was in. I knew that I could make a living as a hair stylist and makeup artist while pursuing my dreams as an actress. I wouldn’t have to be a starving artist.
While working in the salon, I learned that I could perform on stage in another way. I could be an educator and artist for hair care brands. I would guide other hair stylists to advanced techniques in cuts and color and travel the country performing as a platform artist. All the while, the writer in me wanted to explore novels and plays and stories. My love of theatre and film began to seep into my life as a stylist.
"I knew I was a creative. I just didnt realize it would take me down so many paths...Here I am and I'm a magician."
The stories I was writing and developing in my journals, alongside working with a hair care brand led me to work closely with Elite Beauty Solutions, a small boutique salon distributor. Before I knew, it I was taking over that company while simultaneously running my own salon.
As I stand back and survey my businesses, I realize something. I’m more than one thing. Years ago, when I was in high school, I memorized a monologue that brought together all the facets of being an actor. “I am all things to all men, but only if I can make you believe that which I claim to be…For ladies and gentlemen, I am an actor!”
And now I am all things to myself and others…I am an actor, a writer, a hair stylist, a salon owner, a hair care brand consultant, an educator, and much more. I am entrepreneur.
Two Rooms: City Theatre in Austin, TX.
